A bank founded in 1765 moves to Mac — and meets 100% of its security requirements

Lloyds Banking Group gave its engineers a choice between Mac and PC. The pilot was such a hit that the program expanded to other departments. The number of Macs doubled in two years to more than 7,000, and Mac meets 100% of the bank’s security requirements.

Challenge

Lloyds is one of the UK’s most established financial institutions and aims to become the country’s largest fintech. Until recently, employees used only PCs.

The bank operates in a highly regulated industry with a complex mix of systems and code. Any new device had to meet banking-grade security standards before reaching employees.

Solution

The bank started with a pilot for engineers that proved Mac works in its IT environment, then extended device choice to more teams.

Automated Device Enrollment configures Macs automatically, with no IT staff in the room. Secure Enclave, Secure Boot and Touch ID protect data, and employees keep using Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

„Device choice helps unlock productivity, enabling employees to work on technology they already know and trust.”
